International recognition
In Finland health care professionals are prescribed in Act (559/1994) and Degree (564/1994) on Health Care Professionals. The profession of biomedical laboratory scientist (medical laboratory technologist) is included in the category of licensed Health Care professionals.
According to the act, only a licensed professionals who has qualified as biomedical laboratory scientist (early medical laboratory technologist) is entitled to use professional title and practice the profession.
Professional recognition
The Finnish National Board of Education decides on the eligibility conferred by foreign qualifications for civil service posts in Finland (recognition(at)oph.fi)
Competent authority
National Supervisory Authority for Welfare and Health (Valvira) grants, upon application, the right to practice as a licenced or authorised professional and authorises the use of the occupational title of healthcare professional, more http://www.valvira.fi

Academic recognition
The Universities of Applied Sciences and the Universities decide independently on the eligibility that foreign qualifications give for further study and how foreign studies are recognized as part of a degree. Persons, who have studied abroad and intend to continue their studies in Finland, contact the institution directly.
